A SUCCESSFUL BATTLE WITH RAIN

Heavy rain broke out on Wednesday July 15, shortly before the onset of a concert of 18th to 21st century church music. The thirty-member strong Hradec Králové Army Band had to improvise and move, along with other performers, from the extensive second courtyard to a fairly cramped cash room. Just a hundred patient listeners who came to the concert in spite of the very unpleasant weather appreciated the ensemble’s professionalism, interesting sound and the unusual form of interpreting chamber music performed by brass body complemented with some Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra instrumentalists. Singers such as Italian tenor Carangello and Danish Devaux–Blažková as European musical stars, also received ovations. This was one of the last concerts of this exceptionally experienced military band, to be wound up as of December 31 this year by decision of the Czech Ministry of Defence.
