The original Vranov rococo screen with a Chinese theme from the third quarter of the eighteenth century has returned to the chateau after five years. This unique work of Viennese (?) decorators, stored in Vranov depositories since the end of the Second World War, was expensively restored for nearly three quarters of a million Czech crowns courtesy of a Ministry of Culture special grant. Château visitors may admire it when touring the Oriental Parlour that is a part of the first circuits. The screen comprises of eight segments, is more than three metres tall and almost four and a half metres wide. The screen shows the so-called ‘chinoiserie’ fashion that spread all over Europe at that time. We can see a distinguished couple surrounded by servants in exotic costumes, musical themes, feasting and flowers in the environment of an Oriental garden with water areas and vistas. All is contained with humour and hyperbole and permeated with an exultant atmosphere of never-ending celebration.
