Nový Hrádek

Nový Hrádek is situated about 14 km east of Vranov. It consists of two objects - the older Luxembourg building with double oval ring or rampart walls from the 14th century and the front castle, which was built in 15th and 16th century from the original fortress. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was seized, demolished, and abandoned by its inhabitants. In early 19th century the front part of the chateau was rebuilt as a hunting lodge. After 1945 the structure ended up in the closed border zone, where the public had no access. Since 1992 the ruin has been open to visitors again. The ruin is situated in the first, most strictly protected zone of the Podyjí National Park. The rich variety of local flora and fauna is outstanding. The view from the castle offers a breathtaking experience - the scenic panorama of the Dyje canyon opens in its entirety with all the valleys and river meanders.
